A full lineup of 99s can still leave you short of a dependable catcher, a trusted reliever, or a bench bat who survives defensive substitutions. That's why players weighing MLB The Show 26 Stubs against another evening of program progress need more than an overall rating. With October 13 adding more rewards to an already crowded Postseason pool, the useful question is which program fixes your roster's weakest spot while advancing the collection.

1 Build Around the Position That Costs You Games

Postseason rewards lose value when they compete with your strongest starter. Another third baseman won't help much if your losses come from exhausted relievers or an awkward catcher substitution. Before choosing a program, identify the position you keep trying to work around during close games.

Austin Riley makes sense when you need immediate offensive impact. His power against right-handed pitching gives him a clear middle-order role, while his contact against lefties means you don't need an automatic replacement when the opponent changes pitchers. His useful speed adds flexibility, although his defense remains a consideration at third.

2 Choose Riley or Machado Around Your Hitting Priorities

Manny Machado offers a different reason to complete a third-base grind. His stronger offensive numbers against lefties suit a lineup that already handles right-handed pitching comfortably. Riley's appeal is the heavier power threat against righties, so choosing between them starts with your existing batting order.

You'll also get more from a swing you can time consistently than from a small attribute advantage. Use each card in eligible offline games before committing a Ranked lineup spot, paying attention to whether you recognize pitches and make solid contact with that hitter.

These priorities describe jobs within a roster. If your current third baseman already delivers, Rice or Hernández could improve your team more than either dedicated replacement.

3 Treat Versatility as Part of Your Bench Build

Ben Rice becomes particularly valuable when catcher limits your offensive options. His left-handed bat and catcher eligibility let you change the matchup without using another roster slot for coverage. The cost is weaker defense behind the plate, which matters when opponents pressure your throwing game.

Enrique Hernández offers broader flexibility, covering every infield position except catcher plus all three outfield spots. His hitting gives you a credible pinch-hit option, and his eligibility makes the following defensive adjustment easier. Still, eligibility alone doesn't make every assignment equally comfortable.

◆ Keep Hernández available when an early substitution could leave several positions exposed.

◆ Use Rice behind the plate when the offensive improvement justifies the defensive compromise.

4 Match Pitching Rewards to Your Actual Approach

Michael King rewards players who enjoy changing speed and movement. His sinker, circle change, sweeper, four-seamer, and slider provide several sequencing options, but variety only helps when you avoid repeating recognizable patterns. Start with locations you can execute reliably, then expand the sequence as the hitter adjusts.

Gerrit Cole suits a more fastball-led approach, with stamina supporting a conventional starting role. Establishing the four-seamer can make his secondary pitches more effective, although predictable fastball counts still invite hard contact.

Joe Musgrove deserves earlier attention if your rotation is adequate and the bullpen keeps losing leads. His relief role and varied repertoire address a different need from King or Cole. Use the cutter, breaking pitches, and changeup to disrupt timing rather than expecting velocity alone to carry the appearance.

5 Make Program Progress Serve Two Purposes

The White Sox versus Guardians program gives previously earned Postseason cards another job through its PXP requirements. The Retro Championship Series path also rewards careful lineup construction, with Dodgers progress contributing toward overlapping missions. Check mission eligibility before loading into a game.

1) Select rewards that address your weakest roster roles.

2) Build an eligible offline lineup around overlapping team and series missions.

3) Finish useful matchup paths to add eligible cards toward the 27-card Postseason collection.

Keep the Retro rewards separate in your planning: their historical theme doesn't automatically make them eligible for the current series collection. Verlander is worth pursuing for rotation depth, but his longer reward path should serve a real need.

Which Option Should Players Choose

Prioritize Riley for offensive impact, Hernández for substitution flexibility, and Rice when catcher needs a left-handed option. Choose King or Cole around your pitching comfort, and move Musgrove ahead of both if relief pitching is costing you wins.
