During week 5, day 3 of Valorant's top EMEA league, technical difficulties forced the broadcast of the Team Liquid vs. Karmine Corp match to be halted entirely.

The encounter dragged on for more than three hours, with gameplay frequently interrupted by tech pauses, ultimately leading Riot to cancel the broadcast.

Numerous rounds were rolled back to maintain fairness between teams, while the broadcast crew struggled to fill long stretches of dead air. Players displayed visible frustration throughout the ordeal.

In response, Riot issued an official apology and postponed the remaining matches indefinitely.

Prominent pro players didn’t hold back their disappointment. Stars like TenZ and Derke publicly criticized Riot, demanding improvements to the competitive setup.

The match began poorly, with three tech pauses called before the conclusion of round two. Interruptions persisted, and the situation deteriorated until the match was called off.

Even participants in the match expressed their discontent. Nats from Team Liquid joked on Twitter that after winning the first map, they’d have to play the second “in a week,” a comment that sadly turned out accurate given the postponement.

Patitek, another Team Liquid player, bluntly labeled the situation “a f*cking joke” and urged Riot to “step it up.”

From Karmine Corp, Suygetsu apologized for their loss on the first map, acknowledging the chaotic circumstances and mental strain caused by the technical issues.

Fortunately for Karmine Corp, the result of that first map was nullified due to the postponement, giving them a fair chance to face Team Liquid again under better conditions.

Derke, representing Team Vitality, directly blamed Riot’s infrastructure problems for the ongoing issues.

He explained that concerns about hardware and setups have been raised since the league’s franchising began, yet little progress has been made even after three years.

Derke highlighted persistent problems such as unoptimized PCs, fluctuating settings, and frequent stuttering that leads to many tech pauses.

He revealed that players were told they would play online from the stage with a 30ms ping to reduce issues—yet this failed to solve the fundamental hardware shortcomings.

According to Derke, EMEA players suffer particularly due to outdated PCs designed for League of Legends rather than Valorant, a far more demanding game.

He emphasized that no amount of tech pauses can compensate for inadequate equipment needed to ensure a smooth, competitive experience.

“Our concerns have been raised every split, every year,” Derke said. “I hope that now, with everyone aware, real improvements will finally come.”

TenZ also shared his perspective, linking these tech struggles to his decision to retire from professional play.

He expressed frustration that top-tier players are often deprived of the conditions necessary to perform at their best, calling the recurring nature of these issues “absolutely unacceptable.”

TenZ questioned the purpose of franchising and LAN events if matches are ultimately played on online servers, calling Riot’s approach “unreal” and demanding better standards.

Riot Games apologized specifically for the issues on this day, offering refunds to attendees and pledging to reschedule the postponed matches.

However, it remains unclear how Riot plans to address the harsh criticism from some of Valorant’s most prominent pros going forward.
